A new version of application forms under the EC Ankara Agreement has been published for all Turkish workers who wish to extent their stay in the UK.
Please note that the new forms (known as version 08/2010) must be used for all application made on or after 27th August 2010.
In order for a person to be granted permission to stay, this is known as ‘leave to remain’, the person must satisfy the following by:
-Being a worker
-Belonging to UK’s labour force ad being duly registered as one
-Being in legal employment with the same employer for at least 1 year
The UK Border Agency explains that workers who have worked for different employers while having been in the UK will create complications as it will be difficult for the UK Border Agency to check if the worker has been in continuous lawful employment. For such reasons, an ‘employment history’ table has been added in the new forms, section 4.5 of the ECAA 1 form. The table, UK Border Agency claims, will help caseworkers to identify gaps within the applicants’ employment history.
