Identity cards to be issued for skilled migrants and dependants
As of 6th January 2010, the UK Border Agency will issue identity cards for foreign nationals to skilled migrants and their dependants. People in the following categories will now be issued with identity cards when applying for an extension of leave:
· Spouses, civil partners, unmarried or same sex partners applying on FLRM (M)
· Students under Tier 4 general and child
· Postgraduate doctors and dentists
· Academic visitors with leave over 6 months
· Visitors for private medical treatment
· Domestic workers in a private household
· UK ancestry (covering commonwealth citizens)
· Retired persons of independent means
· Sole representatives
· Transfer of conditions (transfer of existing conditions from one document such as a passport to another-applicants will no longer receive a stamp or vignette but will be issued with an identity card instead)
· Dependants of the above
· Skilled workers (includes general and intra-company transfer under Tier 2 PBS)
· Ministers of Religion
· Sports Persons
· Representatives of Overseas Businesses
· Dependants (where main applicant is covered by the scheme)
