On 25 July 2006 the Home Secretary announced a new programme of work to clear the backlog of unresolved asylum cases of around 450,000 cases within five years.
The program, formerly known as ‘legacy casework programme’ and now called ‘case resolution programme’ and is handled by the new Case Resolution Directorate (CRD) at the UK Border Agency (UKBA). The CRD aims to complete the programme by 2011.
