Tier 5_ Temporary Workers

Applicants under this category can apply to come to the UK to do temporary work for a licensed sponsor. Applicants will require a job offer from a licensed sponsor, a valid certificate of sponsorship and pass the points-based assessment to be eligible to apply.

Tier 5 consists of five sub-categories:

·         Charity workers

·         Religious workers

·         Creative and sporting

·         Government authorised exchange

·         International agreement

Requirements:

A total of 40points is required to be eligible under the Tier 5 points based scheme:

·         30 points: Certificate of sponsorship

·         10 points: Maintenance

Applicants can come to the UK for:

  • up to 12 months in order to temporarily work/perform as a sportsperson, entertainer, creative artist or charity worker (consisting of voluntary work) or;
  • up to 24 months as a religious worker, as part of a government authorised exchange, or under an international agreement ( including private servants in diplomatic households).

Applicants will require entry clearance prior to coming to the UK in one of the above categories (except for non-visa nationals arriving in the creative or sporting category in which case they can enter and remain for up to three months).

Switching

Applicants under the Tier 5 category are unable to switch into other categories under the points based system. Similarly, applicants from other Tier based schemes are not entitled to switch into the Tier 5 category or into sub-categories of Tier 5 (except sports/entertainer visitors who can switch into the creative and sporting category).

Family members of temporary workers

Family members of Tier 5 Temporary workers can join the main applicant provided maintenance requirements are met.
