Eligibility:
To be eligible you must show that:
· you are a Commonwealth citizen
· you are aged 17 or over
· you have a grandparent who was born in the United Kingdom (including the Channel Islands or Isle of Man) or a grandparent who was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland before 31 March 1922;
· you can show proof that you intend to work in the UK
· you can adequately support and accommodate yourself and your dependants without help from public funds
Duration
Ancestry visas are normally issued for 5 years. At the end of that period Applicants may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK provided they still meet the requirements for United Kingdom ancestry and they have worked continuously in the United Kingdom for five years.

Normally, the spouse or an unmarried partner and children (under 18) may accompany the Applicant to the UK as dependants.
